Three Cheers for Bob Harris

A few days ago, Mike Nifong was rebuffed when he attempted a photo-op with volunteers from Duke Students for an Ethical Durham. Today he experienced the same when he aggressively confronted Bob Harris, radio announcer for Duke sports, as Harris tried to get out of his car. When Harris turned away, according to WTVD-11, Nifong lectured, “You’ve got to be nicer than that.” The rest of the exchange:

“Get out of here,” Harris said. “Don’t pull this crap.”

“This isn’t about Duke,” Nifong said. “This isn’t about Duke at all.”

“No,” Harris said. “It’s about honesty. You’re not honest.”

Win or lose, Nifong’s character has been exposed in this campaign.

This exchange evidences just how out of touch LieFong is. I hope the "dis" made the news.

Reported at ABC11

" funny thing at my polling station. i was greeted by a lady wearing a Yellow t-shirt with Nifong on the front. (i was wearing a Duke Steatshirt btw) She says "thank you for braving this weather to come out and vote. i replyed "i would swim through a sea of lying strippers to come vote against that scumbag that you have there on your t-shirt" her eyes shifted to the ground and her head followed, in shame would be my guess. "

Follow the link KC posted. You can see the video confrontation between Nifong and Harris. Its in the sidebar on the right.

Apparently Harris asked for it not to be on TV so it might not be on the TV news, but it sure is on the internet.

Awwww Mikey, did someone prejudge you?

It was on the local news, and all I can say is Bob Harris is my new hero. That was spectacular, all the more so because Bob was angry that it was being recorded at all. His anger and bile towards Nifong was not for public display, it was personal and it was deep. Horay for Bob Harris! Take that, you dirty Nifong.

I am so proud of Bob Harris and his handling of Nifong. Does he not get that Duke despises him?

Looks as though Monks was the spoiler in this race. He took just enough votes to keep Liefong in office.

Win or lose? You lose. Justice wins.
and so did Nifong.
The spoiler in this race? Just the trace of your vitriol. But winning diminishes even that. Matter of fact, the memory of these self serving wishful thinking posts is becoming more distant by the second.
see ya.

NiFong won the election..... Thanks to spoiler Monks..

Sad, sand.

Nifong to Durham: FONG YOU ALL! and a special fong you to my little monkey Steve Monks. Monks is short for monkey, and he's the best monkey I ever had. Every boy needs a dog, but monkeys can do more tricks. Got him at the animal shelter. Carnival from Texas dumped him out on Ninth Street. Said they couldn't keep him from crapping on the trailer floor. Hell, I gave him a whole city to crap on wherever, whenever I tell him to. Crap, little Steve! Crap on Durham, now! Good boy! sic semper tyrannis

9:14: Bye, bye Mike, better head on over to the office and start purging whatever you have left to destroy. Never know when the feds may show up. Hey, no worries. After you plead out the Sunshine Workshop can use a nutfong like you. You can light up the world with all the Lions lightbulbs you will make. And the nice lady may let you touch your "banjo." sic semper tyrannis

You may have noticed that the majority of Durham citizens voted against Nifong. Certainly that is a moral victory. You must understand that our judicial system cannot tolerate Nifong's conduct or its authority will be lost...and so will we. It's past time for the Governor, the North Carolina Bar Association, and Duke President Broadhead to declare themselves for due process and justice or trickery and lies.

CWD said...

That was addressed to Anon 9:14

Yeah, Nifong wins 9:14. And the judicial system loses - loses the confidence of the public. Carry that mandate into your first elected position, Mr. District Attorney. The marginal victory over the guy who said he would not take the job and only ran as a counter to you...yep, the people have definitely spoken.

Oh, and when they take you away to spend some time in the place you tried to railroad three young men from Duke into, just remember: "Watch out for your cornhole."

oh well ... i guess this just mean i hace to step up my surveillance on Precious... i'll catch her doing something really bad here soon.

Okay, so Nifong apparently won the election. Now we will see if the North Carolina Bar Association has enforceable ethical standards or just a public relations pamphlet.

The election is a blow to the reputation of Durham and to the reputation of the state. Nifong is still the public face of 'justice' in North Carolina, and will be for awhile. When the elections are over, the cable news talking heads will be back, speaking to the entire nation, and most revile Nifong and don't think much of Durham. The city just spent thousands of dollars on a public relations booster campaign. What chance does that have against the news cycle? Enjoy it Durham. Enjoy it Duke. You have earned it.

Another 6 months or so of this and will anyone not taking African-American studies want to attend Duke and live in such a community?

How about a special referendum to impeach Nifong for abuse of the public trust--among his many other ethical lapses? It seems the NC Constitution allows for impeachment of elected officials. It would be difficult to muster the significant majority required, but making the effort would generate publicity and create some pressure. Surely some mechanism to stop this gross injustice can be found.

Anonymous 6:59,

Do you have a link to that report? Is it in writing? I'd like to see it and use it in a piece.

Thanks,

bob harris looked completely out of control and was very upset with the press for taking pictures of how he was acting on the video. At the end when harris was arguing with a reporter, nifong was standing by laughing his head off. nifong was in control, not harris, who was as out of control. i was laughing too as the reporter involved was from our local news station and is a black man and no way was he following harris's orders. harris must have been taking duke's local nickname(the plantation) to heart if he thought they would stop filming because he yelled at them.

harris is a typical dukie. when they cannot get their entitled way they get angry and violent. sort of like how the duke lax team allegdly treated the strippers. only now their worst nightmare has come true and the main obstacle to the duke 3 walking away scot free has been elected and is now free to pursue the case.

Anonymous said...

Don't Harris' comments remind ya'll of the "have you no sense of decency, sir" comments that brought down Joseph McCarthy? Hopefully, these will eventually have similar results.

Anonymous said...

Anon. at 10:00 a.m. says "typical Dukie. [W]hen they cannot get their entitled way they get angry and violent."

Hmmmm. Showing a little prejudice, aren't we? The same kind of prejudice that lead some vocal folks to bang pots and jump to the conclusion that these fabricated accusations by the stripper were true.

But, IMHO, I think your comments reflect something more reprehensible than anything I've seen from a "dukie".

Anonymous said...

just stating facts from what the dukies have showed. fact: bob harris was angry at nifong and started acting out of control when the reporters continued to film

fact:the duke students refused to shake nifong's hand

fact:the lax 3 are alleged to have roughed-up the stripper because she and kim did not dance enough time

fact:colin finnerty was involved in a bar fight and became angry and menaced the man while calling him gay epithets

fact: the many duke students involved in student misbehavior off campus are known for being berbally abusive to police and neighbors when told to tone things down.

seems like a pattern of acting out when not getting one's way to me

to 10:00AM - I have known Bob Harris for many years - you should hope to be such a man. I don't have to know Liefong at all (& hope I never do) to know he is a liar, & someone who is interested only in his wellfare and his pension. I can only hope that he lives out part of his life courtesy of the overburdened taxpayer behind bars. It's all he deserves.

It appears to me on the video that Mike Nifong is trying to instigate something with Bob Harris. He knew what reaction he would get, which is why when the cameras were following him, he walked over to Bob's car. Whether you like Duke or Nifong, this attempt to showboat by Mike was not tasteful in any kind of way. But in my humble opinion, this whole election and case is distasteful. My true justice prevail.

IMHO at 12:05 p.m., I wouldn't have shaken Nifong's hand either. Some folks engage in conduct so reprehensible they don't deserve a handshake and Nifong is one of them. I wouldn't shake OJ's hand either if he offered it. If Hitler were still around, I wouldn't shake his hand either. That about covers it. Hitler, OJ, Mike Nifong.

Anonymous said...

Also, IMHO, why didn't the Duke players rough up Kim also? If they roughed up the false accuser because "she and kim did not dance enough time", why was Kim unharmed? I know the answer -- it's because there was no assault.

To 10:00 am poster:

I wish there was a way for you to see the racism in your heart as revealed in your post. Clearly the video was an orchestrated ambush to try to get a symbol of Duke (Harris) to react to Nifong. If Nifong himself did not set it up, he recognized the opportunity with the camera crew filming him and seeing Harris drive up. Of course Nifong was in control, he knew what he wanted (a confrontation) and knew he would look good by being a genial fellow.

Harris clearly did not want to be part of that setup which is why he wanted the clip not to be aired. The cameraman's race had absolutely nothing to do with it. His race is only important to YOU who want to "get whitey". So you were amused especially because a black man was involved in getting whitey.

Harris was not angry because he wasn't "getting his way". He was angry because he did not want to be made a part of Nifong's orchestrated set up to try to show what a reasonable guy Nifong is.

YOU see Duke as the broken down plantation. The students I have met do not. You take delight in an image of the "massahs" getting their comeuppance. Duke is as racially diverse as any college of its size in America.

Your attitude may kill the goose that lays golden eggs that Duke is to Durham. If you don't know that Aesop's fable, here's the link to it in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goose_that_Laid_the_Golden_Eggs

Bob Harris has grounds for both election law violations and personal harrassment charges. Hopefully he will pursue them. I have commented on this further in the most recent KC article comments.

On a personal note, if I had been in the same position, I would likely have reacted with even less restraint than Bob Harris. There is a build-up of pressure in the "pot" that cannot continue without a release. I am a civilized, socially acceptable, and "polite" person. I have never peed in anyone's bushes (do bears count?). And, I would NOT have been able to handle that situation as well as Harris did.

To the poster who said that Nifong's win now allows him to go forward with this case, Nifong has never stopped going forward with this case. It was his ticket to the win to do so. Even if he had lost, the case would still have moved forward throught the rest of his tenure in office and likely beyond. His win was not a ticket to proceed. He MUST go forward with it now because he agreed to be the black community's pawn in furthering the RR agenda. He had some outs with his statement that he had not interviewed the AV, but not now. I think I am well-founded in saying that JUSTICE was the issue in attempts to oust Nifong, not simply this case. This case has merely demonstrated (along with what is obviously a skewed sense of priority by the DPD and DA as to what crimes they choose to address in Durham) the deficiencies in Nifong as a human being and attorney, and his misconduct as a DA.

If this case goes to court, Nifong will hang himself simply by opening his mouth one too many times. I will be at that trial from the moment the door to the courthouse opens to witness the true lynching.

it doesn't really matter if the duke students see duke as a plantation. people who oppress others with their disrespectful attitudes and behavior seldom see themselves as oppressors. they see their own actions as justified and the negative reactions of others about their actions to be unreasonable; that is the definition of entitlement and priviledge. what is important is how the native blacks see duke and it is still called the plantation by some, whether you like it or not. if the lax defense had not tried to sling so much dirt at the av and nifong, they might have done better with their candidate but they didn't and they tried to manipulate the black vote with an info campaign and failed miserably as blacks do not trust anything from the plantation.

Anonymous said...

When I said I wished you could see the racism in your heart I of course had no hope that you would do so. To refer to or see Duke as the plantation is a racist concept. It assumes that white massahs force slaves, or underprivileged blacks in modern parlance, to serve the massahs for the exclusive benefit of the institution and to the detriment of the servants. The "plantation" concept is inaccurate in any sense and to force that construct on Duke even by way of analogy only evinces invidious racial prejudice. I'm sorry you can't see it.

allie said...

by "slinging dirt at the AV and nifong", I assume you mean publicizing facts and evidence which clearly contradict their case. once you can no longer tell the difference between insults/opinions and actual facts, I'm afraid you may be a lost cause.

duke parent you do not know the history of duke or the dukes for which it was named and why the local blacks call it the plantation. the original dukes were robber barons who made thier money on tobacco--the local blacks picked it in virtual slavery as sharecroppers and worked later for low wages in the cigarette factories until Trinity college was purchased and renamed Duke. Then the dukes were mosre altruistic and founded the hospital, etc, which had segregated wards that were slow to integrate and the campus itself was slow to integrate. many local blacks were put into experimental medical protocols without their knowledge through the years. it got so bad that the locals founded durham general to have a hospital seperate from duke. in fact, those practices continue to this day--the last big lawsuit Willie Gary won at Duke was a suit in which poor blacks had autopsies done on their families without their permission and this was only arounf 4 years ago. it was a mega verdict. the students at duke are also known for their arrogant behavior with the locals. thus, many local blacks called duke the plantation and continue to do so. the story of a black stripper being assaulted verbally and physically by young white males fits right in to the plantation behavior pattern.
