Association for Truth and Fairness

I've added a sidebar link to the Association for Truth and Fairness, the legal defense fund in what can now officially be termed the non-rape case.

Media reports have suggested that the monthly defense cost for each family is around $80,000; I have no reason to disbelieve this figure. This defense has cost so much in part because the State either conducted no investigation or (as the Meehan testimony revealed) actually withheld the evidence that it did collect. So, over the past several months, defense lawyers have not only had to perform their normal function, but also a good portion of the State's--all while dealing with the highest-profile case of prosecutorial misconduct in recent memory.

And, to get a sense of the highly personal toll this affair has taken even for the families of the unindicted players, take a look at Joan Collins' recent column.

Debrah,

Why do you write with very annoying ". . ."

That's not how you write in the real world.

11:53 - I made the analogy some time ago that Nifong had played the part of Don Quixote and Precious had become his Dulcinea.

1155,

They've been comparing Mike Nifong to Don Quixote--convinced a Ho is a heroine.

I think it's too flattering to Nifong to assume he's doing this out of misguided chivalry. I think it's calculated.

But then, I'm cynical.

But then, so was Cervantes.

(Dammit, I WILL get this comment right!)

Night everyone. Tho now I'm too worked up to sleep. Grwwl.

Esquire -

I just reread your post, got the double negative wrong....

I had too many martinis after attending my son's school's faculty "forum" this evening on implementing random drug testing. I resemble their remarks!

Their lackey really pissed me off.

I'm logging on late so that I can catch the new post.

I didn't get a chance to view the entire board, but my guess is that Bingham is correct. Roman Polanski was art directing 2 photo shoots today, and, were he inclined to be "professor for a day," would have been much more amusing.

Why would I be boring like that guy? Geez!

You dissed the real deal.

Roman Polanski

Joe: I am cynical as well, but that's the way it appears to me, in an odd Nifong sort of way.

Calculated madness? False chivalry? Deception of the ego?

All add into it.

Very deep.
I'm looking forward to your next syllable.

I don't know how many people here visit the FODU website or even post there, but the moderator will kick you off in a heart beat, if you have any disagreements with him/her or a member of the Duke faculty . I found that out first hand, so beware to all that post on FODU. I just hope you are listening, I went after Karla Holloway and got booted off that site for NOT supporting her, only because she is a member of the Duke faculty, supported by the same members of that faculty, even though they disagree with her. To me it is a biased site, that supports only Brodhead, and the "Group of 88".

Random drug testing? At school?

Make it a double. Your anger is understandable.

Can't say I support that either.

Joe says...."I think it's too flattering to Nifong......"

The understatement of the evening. And that was my point. Don Quixote was motivated by unadulterated chivalry.

Nifong----besides being a pedestrian figure----was motivated by pure self-service and self-preservation.

Not trying to take a side in the personality clash.

As far as I'm concerned, we all be friends.

Oh yeah, random drug testing for high school and possibly middle school, if you can believe it. I've read the Supreme Court decision, but I'm not a lawyer and I'm over my head. Seems they define extra curricular activity as a privilege, not a right. So, if you refuse to be tested, so long football, lacrosse, band, choir, whatever. Only can attend "core classes" of reading, writing and arithmetic. Pretty pathetic and ironic since we're in the Kinnelon NJ school district which is awesome but heavily Republican and supposedly against government intrusion. But, I'm way off post. I am starting a blog for the community since they only presented one point of view tonight - pro random testing.

DL: You have to line someone up for that one. I would suggest contacting (it PAINS me to mutter the letters) the ACLU in your area and see what they have to say. There are a number of cases on this issue, and that's something they would probably be interested in. Hey, it's free legal services. Might as well see what they have to say.

Yes, the humor of it is what struck me as well. I find the image to be hysterical.

Debrah 11:35PM,

I don't get your whole point but it is quite possible I'm non compis mentis.

OTOH I didn't disagree with esq. He posted something that addressed me and I did not get his point.

As I gather he was just using my name as a reference point. Something like 13:44 (if we were on a 24 hour clock), and not to my position on the case.

Communication is difficult. Even among the like minded.

Roman 11:59PM,

The "good" "professor" was dissing a certain Jewish Polish film director.

So I was tweaking his nose since he posts as anon.

Really though, I think you could do boring professor if you tried hard.

Very petty things like the suggestion to alter my affected "ROTFLMTO !" and some other criticisms that were anonymous.

That wasn't Esquire, that was me.

Besides, the new one is better, because it could be ROTFLM-testicles-O ...

It is not clear to me that the Association for Truth and Fairness is merely a legal defense fund. It appears that its goal is to provide public relations work in addition to defraying expenses to the accused (wrongfully) individuals.

KC - - are you receiving any money, grants or other financial support from this Fund? I notice you are a contributor (the only contributor) to their blog.

As with any charity beforre contributing it is best to check it out. Ask for a list of officers and directors. Ask to see how the money is spent.

Professor anon.

1. Why don't professors make their syllabi public?

2. Why don't professors link published articles so the public has access?

3. Though this may not be a question for you, you may be helpful. How does one contact members of the Board of Trustees? Their contact information in not included on the Duke web site?

In an age of communication, always-on access, transparency and governance Duke receives an "F".

Re: WJD 12:02 am post

To set the record straight, you did not get banned from the FODU board because of your views on Karla Holloway. You got kicked out because you registered under at least 13 different names posting as 13 different people and causing a great deal of trouble on the board.

I am all for random testing everywhere. People who don't do drugs don't care. Drug users need to understand, they will be hit (mostly economically) if they continue contribiting to drug culture. Drugs are killing America - I think the reason they are not legalized is because to many members of Congress are being paid off. Remember proabition - once the illegal money was taken out of the issuee - thinks quited down. I smoke and am proud to say< I pay taxrs on my vice. Don't mean to hijack the thread.

Brodhead would turn down Harvard for Duke. Right...

4:11PM I like Polish Jews. Unfortunately, few are left due to Hitler and Nazis killing them off during the WW11. Roman Polanski is a film director who has not graced the shores of America for at leasst thirty years. Charge of child molestation.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and there's an even bigger pervert impersonating Polanski on this board.

Don't expect truth and fairness from Professon Gustafson, he is a big supporter of Karla Holloway. I really can't understand why he can support Collin, Dave and Reade and her venomous statements, at the same time. He is supposedly a smart person, but supporting the venom comming out of Karla Holloway's pen is not supporting anyone, just sitting on the fence waiting for the ball to drop.
