The noting of Jimmy Regan during the telecast was moving. Congrats to all the kids and their families.

They beat the Green Terror. Well done for the team. I wish them a successful season, and an emphasis on lacrosse where it belongs - on the field.

Go Duke!

Congratulations to Duke LAX! That must have been a very exciting game--completely exhilarating for players and spectators. Any word on how President Brodhead was received by the crowd?

Rumor has it Nifong, Linwood, Victoria Peterson, Cash Michaels and Irv Joyner were spotted in the Dartmouth cheering section. ;)

First time I routed against Dartmouth in anything.

The Duke boys had a season stolen from them by, among others, a lying stripper, a rouge cop, a corrupt DA, a hate infested faculty, and a spineless college president.

I'm sure it felt good to be out there again.

I thought this article was pretty good.

Duke Lacrosse Makes Triumphant Return

Congrats guys!! I hope you kick azz and have a great season. There's nothing like playing the sport you love.

I just wish Collin and Reade could have been out there playing. I'm thinking about them too.

Duke beat the Big Green- not the Green Terror. McDaniel College Green Terror (a small liberal arts college outside of Baltimore (DIII) I'm alumi. Also MD esq. generally great posts.

Reade and Colin should have been there to share in the experience. Oh yeah, thats right there are bogus charges still against them, 88 Duke professors who slandered them and played a role in the hoax still work at Duke and Nifong is still in office. They have missed a year of school and their lives have been changed forever....I can't seem to gvie a damn about a lacrosse game when 3 innocent mens lives and their families lives have been turned inside out and upside down. I give the players credit for keeping Reade, Colin and Dave in their thoughts and prayers.

It was a great game.

Dartmouth was much better than what I expected, but Duke broke away in the 2nd Half.

Great to see them back.

It helps putting everything back in perspective - though more justice to be done.

Good luck to all

Go men's LAX!!! I did see a quick report on Fox (it's on again) that mentioned the "potbangers" and the marked difference in how the "new" rape accusation has been treated by the police, AND the university. "This time, there have been NO protests; no "marching."

Will the players who lost a season last year have a year of eligibility extended by the NCAA?

I'm one of those who thinks lacrosse and other sports are given undue importance (especially with a war on), but in this case I'm certainly glad they won.

So now you're also a sports reporter. How soon before KC becomes a roving reporter for ESPN. Booya baby!

Congrats to Duke LAX for win today. Thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy Regan's family. Now, go beat Denver! Thanks to the Lady Devils LAX team for their unwaivering support. Good luck against Bill and Mary tomorrow.

I do not care anything about college lacrosse. But I have to say, I was looking for that Duke lacrosse score today.

Mr. Brodhead,
Since you like to blast your sports members, maybe you should consider how much money they bring your university.

Wait till next year!

I wonder if any of the 88 hatemongers were at the game...

Who cares about the Group of 88. Why don't the students just protest by never taking their classes? Eventually the University has to say something? They can not have 87 (factoring one who left) professors who have 3 kids a semester enroll. That is not a good ROIC. A silent protest will be heard eventually!

Teach: You caught me in a middle life moment of name confusion. Nice catch, and of course you're right. Still wierd not to call it Western Maryland, though, but things change I suppose.

U. of Denver up next? You'll enjoy watching #42 and #43, they are Freshman and the real deal, though I don't know if they are getting any P.T. They will.

If you are following the CCI story, you will note that one of the recommendations is for every student to take an required course in "Diversity". Right there, you have full employment for the 88. In fact, that kind of student load would neccesitate hiring many more like-minded staff to augment what is becoming the tail (or another word for that) wagging the dog.

Wow - what a crowd. Is this normal for lacrosse? Looks like its true, "If you live through it, you get stronger."

I am totally unfamiliar with the game; and I am not generally a bug sports fan. Still, I wished I got ESPNU today; I would have liked to have seen it. I am so happy they won. For those who are interested, ESPN's web site has some pretty good coverage with several articles and videos.
They have a game against Denver tommorrow (later today.)

Great that they are back on the field and that they started back with a win.

I don't think most people have any idea the dedication that most of these players have to the game of lacrosse and the sacrifices they have made to play for a team that has a shot at a national championship. They basically have to live and breath lacrosse and likely been doing this for many years. The heartless ripping away of a potential national championship from them is much more devastating than most would assume.

Brodhead's cancelling of the season and firing the coach was a huge over reaction that was made in order to feed the PC potbangers bigoted demands.

3:43 - Lacrosse is a great game, and the rules can be confusing unless you grew up playing the game. I'll try my best, though.

The rules of Lacrosse are similar to soccer, with the same off-sides rules. The positions are Defense, Midfield and Attack. The Midfielders play both offense and defense. The offensive rotations are similar to hockey/basketball, with pick and rolls. The feed can come from behind the goal (as in hockey), and the cutter from in front of the goal coming down (or from the side, or rolling out). If a shot is taken, the ball gets awarded to the team whose player is closest when the ball goes out of bounds and reaches the end-line. The penalties are pure hockey style, with slashing, shots to the heads, etc. earning timed penalties.

The best teams run a flowing, offensive style that involves rotation of the ball around the goal and creates passing in space, with cutters getting feeds. It is a sport not made for television, but is best viewed at the game itself. The players are fast, BTW, and you will be shocked at how quickly the game moves. I had one buddy who ran a legit 4.1 40 yard dash, and 4.3 times are not all that unusual. Speed trumps size in most cases. The eye/hand coordination is incredible, and one must start at about age 5-6 to master the finer points of cradling, catching and throwing with both hands.

Women's lacrosse differs from men's lacrosse because in the women's game the stick has no pocket, and the rules do not allow for much physical contact. It is a shadow game, not the physical checking style found in men's lacrosse.

I hope my explanation helps. Watch the game, and I hope you enjoy it.

Really! I think your stop watch must have been a little off.

I was the one who mentioned yesterday wanting to watch the game against Dartmouth but not having ESPNU (my cable in my condo pretty much sucks.) Anyway, I figured out a bit late that today's Duke vs Denver game was on "ACC Select." I was able to find the web site and buy the game for $3.99 to watch it live online. I caught about the last half of the last period. (The site states they record, so if you miss it live, you can go back and watch the whole game recorded if you want.) Duke won again! Having never watched lacrosse before, I found it very easy to follow and indeed very exciting. I may just become a fan of this game. Anyway, having this team to cheer for this season, really makes it fun. Today's game clearly wasn't nearly as well attended as yesterday's reported 6000plus. It was obviously overcast and rainy. Shots of the stands showed a few people huddled in rain parkas. Still yesterday's crowd showed how much their classmates do support them even if they might not be particularly interested it the game they play. I think the fact that thousands of people showed up for the opening game of a sport most may have little interest in actually says *more* about how they support these players as human beings who really just got a bum rap.
I would really like to see this Duke team take the title this year so I plan to be following the season. If you go to Duke's athletic site, you can pull up their schedule and see which games will be available on "ACC Select." At four bucks a game, it's not a whole lot. I plan on checking out as many games as I can.
