Seligmann Receives Delbarton Medal

From the good news file: earlier this week, Delbarton School awarded Reade Seligmann the Delbarton Medal, the school’s highest honor and one rarely given to those outside the student body. The school’s headmaster, Fr. Luke Travers, praised “Reade's courage, nobility, integrity and charity,” adding that the Delbarton graduate “gave us a model of how to handle the pressures that we all experience.”

In an address to the entire student body, Seligmann (wearing the Medal) cited the backing he had received from the Delbarton community, and noted—correctly—“all leaders of every academic institution in the country now have an example to follow.” Indeed, Delbarton’s behavior throughout the case shows how an academic institution can remain faithful to its ideals and loyal to its students.

  1. It makes we want to cry, I am so proud of him, Collin and Dave. Broadhead, hang your head in shame. This is how REAL MEN behave. Good for Delbarton. Good for them.

  2. You mean they didn't give a medal to Brodhead as well?

  4. Where is the SP report on the case??? The AG said it would be released last week, and we still have not seen it. It's lucky these government people don't have jobs in the real world; they'd never be able to get away with crap like this.

  5. Has anyone notified the feckless stumblebum about this?? Does he or the bot have any clue how they are being viewed out in the real world??

I would have been blessed if I'd had a son like Reade. I would have been equally blessed if I'd had parents like his.

Delbarton has shown it has the integrity to recognize and honor that - bless them.

  9. KC...I hope that your book will include profiles of the supposed "civil rights" organizations, both gender and ethnic, which spent the entirety of this scandal on the wrong side of truth and justice.

Supposed "bastions of white privilege" like Delbarton have been standing up as they've been doing since their inception while frauds such as the NCNAACP and "feminists" such as Amanda Marcotte have been dually liars and mimes over the course of the last year.

  12. I am not sure if was AP or MSNBC who created this headline and subheadline that still shows that many in the media are having a hard time dealing with the fact that they did not do anything wrong:

  14. Why wasn't it DUKE that presented the three with an award for showing so much grace under pressure?

Why wasn't it DUKE which said it was proud of the way these three conducted themselves?

Why wasn't Seligmann able to say that "Duke had his back"?

  15. Congratulations to Reade for a much deserved award. Delbarton shows inspiring institutional integrity for caring about and supporting him.
Nice job by the Daily Record for first reporting.
Since this was picked up by the AP, who always managed to be concise and fair in their reporting, I don't see the NYT on the list of papers across the country who picked it up from AP.
Godspeed to a bright future, Reade, Collin and Dave. I hope the good guys always have your back.

  16. Notice at Johnsville News - another book about the case coming out same day as Coach Presslers - this one from folk at the New York Times - I am going to be very careful not to support the MSM that crucified these boys - most of all the Times.

  17. Well, a good point how is the NY Times going to cover this story, which is LOCAL and should merit some coverage.

I bet it doesn't make the nation edition.

  18. This was a nice story. The Delbarton headmaster went down to Duke to meet with the five alumni on the team. His thorough due diligence and unwaivering support provided a template as to how the Duke admininstration should have acted.

  20. O/T, but...

An ADA who served under and actively supported Nifong is now the Executive Director of the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission.

No, I'm not making it up.

  23. Within a week of the indictments, the heads of all three prep schools came out in support of Reade, Collin and Dave. As a Duke alum, that's when I made up my mind to stop sending them money until Broadhead was gone. Protecting the farce of the Group of 88 and not doing your own honest investigation of the character of the team was the act of a coward.

  24. Great story. He deserves recognition for poise and endurance under extreme duress in unfair circumstances.

And this can only be helpful to the reputation of Delbarton and their administration.

I wonder if Brodhead contacted the three or their parents or lawyers and extended personal well-wishings. The public statements released by the BOT and Brodhead were pretty weaselly and Duke seemed to slink into the background after them.

  25. Fr. Luke Travers is a living example of the Cadet Maxim-

"Risk more than others think is safe.
Care more than others think is wise.
Dream more than others think is practical.
Expect more than others think is possible".

  26. 7:53 Thats not what Johnville News writes - See their write on their site and they identify her as working for the NYT. I don't know -only what I read and you can check it out yourself.

  27. So, I'm the only one who finds it ironic that someone who supported Nifong is now the head of an organization that tries to exonerate the falsely accused?

    Seriously?

  29. Now I have seen everything! Someone who was pictured actively drinking at an all day boozefest in the same room where women were hired for a lesbian sex show and these minority women then were assailed by racial epithets has been awarded a medal! This is a poor example to send to high school students and cheapens the award given previously to a true hero, a Holocaust surviver and witness! The headmaster really messed up this time.

  30. We are all proud of Reade and the much deserved recognition. I have a son and can only wish that he attended Delbarton School. I am impressed by their spirit and attitude and must assume that Reade is just one of the many fine young men who are being nurtured there. It's so wonderful to see a school really live by its mission.

Reade is a young man whose "courage, nobility, integrity and charity" should be rewarded in his handling of this life altering experience.

Reade was not responsible for racial slurs. Reade did, however, attend what you describe as a "lesbian sex show" and was responsible for "actively participating" in what you describe as a "boozefest",(drinking) both of which are legal in North Carolina. (Prohibition ended in 1933).

For these actions, however unacceptable they may be to you, a young man should not face 30 years in prison. It was the way in which Reade handled this situation that was most courageous and noble.
