The Dynamic Duo

For those in Durham without anything else to do Thursday, and who are eager for an evening of impenetrable discourse, consider the seminar event below:

Because, if nothing else, Wahneema Lubiano is expert in "works-in-progress."

  1. This is a joke, right? A photoshopped joke. If not, Duke and these ass-clowns deserve nothing less than each other.

  2. Is Lubiano a Communist?

  3. No doubt they will be discussing Karen Owen's "Sex Thesis."

  4. It's real, all right. My favorite part is that you have to "R.S.V.P" -- because not just anyone can be privileged to hear Wahneema's wisdom.

  5. Wahneema will have another "publication" to add to her CV.

  6. Don't forget that Holloway still claims that Reade, Collin, and David are guilty of rape? Why? Collective guilt, or, as Holloway says, "Guilt is a social construct."

Of course, she hardly is alone. Duke University continues to pretend that the players really were guilty, and that they simply "bought justice." I know that is a bit of a stretch, but don't forget the public statements made by John Burness and the reaction by Duke after the case was closed.

The authorities at Duke, while mouthing "innocence," nonetheless continue to bestow honor after honor on the most professors who have been most vocal in condemning the lacrosse players. To me, that says that Duke University's leadership continues to act as those those three young men are rapists.

  7. As President Brodhead has said, there is certainly an "intermediate explanation" about Prof. Lubiano's "forthcoming" publications just as there is an "intermediate explanation" about Anil Potti's resume claims.

Truth, after all, is a "social construct" of dead white guys.

  8. This should be as interesting as Sidney Harr's defense of Mike Nifong.

  9. "Hang on, I'll just check my diary ... Oh dear. I find I'm watching television that night." (Peter Cook, in response to David Frost's dinner invitation.)

  10. Everytime you have a new post, I think to myself that you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.

  11. Still recuperating after being Mugged by a Metaphor. Otherwise I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Honest.

  12. Sidney Harr's latest allegation in the Duke Rape Case was that the Defense attorneys got the report of the DNA Security testing, then destroyed the report, then claimed Mr. Nifong had withheld the report

  13. Prof. Johnson,

In a 2008 interview with "Daily Show" creator Lizz Winstead, Moe Tkacik, former editor of the popular blog "Jezebel" tells a truly astonishing anecdote about the Duke student newspaper during the lacrosse ordeal. It's here at about the 47min. mark:

    the comic's comic

She seems to infer that even if the three students were innocent of rape, there must've been a rapist on that team somewhere - so what's the difference? The clip's no more that minute or two.

Love to know your thoughts on a self-identified "journalist" making an allegation like this in public. It's kind of chilling, really.

  16. KC, did you ever write-up Karla's most recent book?

  17. This is not on topic but I can not find a better place to post this.

Some may want to wreak havoc on Ms. Karen Owen over her "thesis". For whatever reason it happened, it was intended as a joke and Ms. Owen has expressed sincere regret.

Remember what happened to Ryan McFayden(sp?) over his email which was intended as a satire. Would you want to wish something like that on anyone else?

  18. Seems to me that Holloway is accomplishing a number of goals with this little meeting.

First, Duke is put on notice that Wahneema is not to be messed with because her role in the Duke lacrosse rape hoax. I'll reference this as the ...Keep Holloway's Chicks Employed Initiative.

Secondly, this little symposium no doubt meets the so-called distribution of information requirement for half-a-dozen grants where Race/Class/Culture/Privilege are pondered by those in the know.

Then of course it is necessary to keep graduates of Holloway's and Wahneema's programs informed and up-to-date with their employment status and their various programs which of course... spawned the Duke lacrosse rape hoax in the first place.

It is important to keep the narrative alive wherever Holloway and Wahnemma have graduates doing the good work.

And the beat goes on and on and on and ...

    Good Point!

Perhaps I have not been keeping up with what Ms. Owen's has to say about her thesis.

    Where's the joke?

    Where's the satire?

  20. Ah, yes. Two of the greatest minds of the 15th century.

  21. And one more thing. I should like to suggest that if Wahneema Lubiano weren't so busy sitting around talking all the time, having 'conversations' (with the likes of Holloway) she might actually get something written. Moreover, if she would spend some of that time writing instead of flapping her gums, she might not have as much time on her hands to make trouble.

  22. Holloway is a social construct.
