Eugene Brown on the Inquiry

Durham City Councilman Eugene Brown: "It's really an embarrassment that we're going through this and that we have to do this process. It's painful, but the truth, sometimes, is painful, and it needs to come out."

Jim Cooney's presentation has shown that Brown's words were on target.

It's an embarrassment? How about it's a NECESSITY to go through this! And it's about time! Maybe if they'd ever watched what these guys were doing before now in the DPD they wouldn't be going through this now!

As if we didn't already know that Nifong and the DPD were incompetent and corrupt. It looks like by giving defense attorneys the leeway to give their side of things in this investigation it's going to make the former DA and the DPD look like the corrupt knuckleheads they are.

Councilman, are there plans to put a system of checks and balances in place? Will you simply rely on the Bar to police your DA's office?
You folks have some serious work to do with your police department. It might be a good idea just to clean house and start anew. The bad apples have really sullied the barrel and it wouldn't appear that the Durham Council has not had the wherewithall to do anything to improve things in DPD or help out a tarnished city's image.
If you think the wait and see attitude will work, keep on waiting. You'll see in short order that what was once a great city will be reduced to a ghost town.
Put up or shut up.
