Men's Lacrosse Wins

For those who missed the game, the men's squad defeated Cornell, 12-11, to advance to the finals against Johns Hopkins.

Goalie Dan Loftus stymied Cornell for the second and most of the third quarters with several dazzling saves, and Duke's Zack Greer scored the game-winning goal with three seconds left, on a pass from Peter Lamade.

The Monday finals, at 1pm, will be televised by ESPN.

That is awesome -- what an exciting

Professor:

How did you get info on game? You in Ithaca, Durham?

I'm actually in DC: watched the game, though, and spoke to a few people who were at the game as it was going on.

I don't give a flip about lacrosse, but I'm glad they won. For now, I'm sure Duke's guys needed it more than the other team.

That last goal by Greer sure was beautiful. Congrats guys!!

The game was televised on ESPN2 and held at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Monday's final against Johns Hopkins is from the same stadium and will be aired on the same network.
The baltimore sun website has a great deal of info on this tournament.

oNE CAN ALSO GO TO WWW.GODUKE.COM AND CLICK ON "LIVE STATS" AND GET TO SEE THE STATS OF THE GAME AS THEY HAPPEN. THATS IN CASE YOUR NOT NEAR A TV OR HAVE ESPN CHANNELS.

Do you think Mikey Nifong will be rooting for Duke Monday? :)

"Succisa virescit."

Go Devils!

After Baltimore, it's on to Raleigh for the Nifong trial. Duke Lax has some unfinished business to take care of. All the best to this fine group of young men who have made us all proud. Cut down, they are truly stronger.

Just got back from the game--completely unbelievable!!!!!!!! It was sooooooo hot, but the Dukies pulled it out, and that last goal was just amazing!!!!!! Go DUKE LAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I hope Pressler, Dave, Reade and Collin are at the finals on Monday!

Although, it breaks my heart they will be AT the game instead of IN it.

Oh, KC.

You're so HOT !

I'm supposed to care about this?

Most of the lax guys who played when I was there were meat-head assholes. Ehh, GO DUKE!!! I guess.

Lax is one of those sports like tennis and beach volleyball where the men's side should just be disbanded. Of course, this is just my own personal opinion. In my defense, 2 of the 10 most attractive women I've ever known were Duke Women's Lax'ers. Seriously, the ratio is just ridiculous.

What is KC's astrological sign?

Carolyn--
Dave Evans was there today, so he will probably be there Monday as well. I read that Pressler will be there Monday as well (maybe on this blog--?). Don't know about the others.

Whoever comes better dress lightly and bring their sunscreen--it was hot as anything out there today, and so tense I was still tied up in nots 2 hours later when I got back to DC. The last minute or so was amazing--with the score tied, Cornell turned the ball over to Duke twice, but Duke couldn't clear without turning it back over to Cornell either time. Then the Cornell goal with 17 seconds left. This was terrible--the Duke defense looked completely exhausted, Loftus and McDevitt had been cramping up throughout the second half, it seemed like Cornell would clearly have the edge if the game went into overtime. Then the amazing Greer goal--one of the most exciting finishes I've ever seen.

Oops, that's knots, not nots.

Spook @ 9:07

KC is as hot as hell.

I watched the game start to finish and it was one of the most ezciting sporting events I have ever witnessed, and I watch more than my fair share of sports.

By the time today's second game began, I knew I could live with this tournament's outcome. My first-born daughter graduated from Cornell, my son from Duke; and my wife and I earned graduate degrees from Hopkins. My bank for the past umpteen years has been M & T.

Ain't the beer cold!

Spook--Chicago looks like Matt Damon. Are you jealous of him?

Spook, I appreciate your stabs at humor, but you're not quite there.

Eg, saying KC was hot, then linking those images (the joke was beyond me).

What you should have said is: "I like a man who shaves his balls every morning." Then you cut to the Johnson photos. Get it? That's funny.

Well, nice try, but I didn't say he was hot ... another anon did. I always sign "One Spook" .... the others must be women. I was simply kidding! I am one of those ever-increasingly rare males who is attracted to women.

And as for anon 9:17 ... "sticks and stones can break my bones ..."

I've seen momentum changes before, but this game takes the cake. Duke was up 10-3 at halftime, and some of the thousands of Cornell fans began to filter out in the third quarter (Red everywhere, especially near the endzones). Then Cornell comes back, and by the time its 10-6 you can see the Big Red fans wake up. That last Cornell goal was penultimate; capping a fantastic comeback. And then a Duke goal in 14 seconds to win! (3 seconds left on the clock!) This one was a beaut, the drama of a closely battled sporting event at the highest talent level is hard to beat.

I meant 10-3 in the third quarter, 7-3 at halftime. 7 goals down with 20 minutes or so left, thats a tough road to hew. Still.. a great game.

I totally have to watch this game.
