Bannon on Duff Wilson
An extraordinary moment in the courtroom, as Brad Bannon, from the witness stand, rebuked the continuing slanted coverage of the New York Times.
Even if Nifong hadn't made his public statements, Bannon said, he still could have responded to media--for instance, when Duff Wilson called him up on August 24 and outlined three or four major arguments for his story the next day that he and Joe Cheshire knew not to be true.
Bannon relayed the news that Wilson was planning to lead off with a claim of Crystal Mangum allegedly being beaten (from the Gottlieb notes); Wilson called a few hours before the story went to print. Bannon sent Wilson a copy of the photos showing that Mangum wasn't bruised. The news appeared to make no difference in Wilson's story.
It's also my understanding that although Wilson claimed for his story to have reviewed the entire discovery file, he asked defense attorneys--after the story went to print--for a full copy of the discovery file, ostensibly for the purpose of "re-reviewing" it.

Duff Wilson, are you going to report in the third person?
I LOL'd.
A very good day for justice.
Ah, the New York Times..we continue to learn what an ugly thing it is indeed.....such an ignoble end for a humble pulpwood tree. It would be so much better if such natural resources could be used for more useful things such as lottery tickets or toilet tissue. : ) ...MrRabbit
I sure hope Duff Wilson was in the audience to hear public confirmation that he is a liar.
He is, Brad said when he 1st metnioned Duff Wilso that he is present here today
Brad Bannon managed to cream Mike Nifong, Nancy Grace, and Duff Wilson during his testimony. Not bad!
The chickens are indeed coming home to roost.
Can't wait to see if Duff Wilson mentions himself in his own story.
HA.
"Brad Bannon managed to cream Mike Nifong, Nancy Grace, and Duff Wilson during his testimony. Not bad!"
Too bad he missed Broadhead.
Duff Wilson pretends to be an honest and impartial reporter with no particular axe to grind in the LAX case. Pretends. In fact he is a vicious and habitual liar with a front page pulpit.
"re-reviewing"
LOL - what a putts!
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, I am so glad that Bannon publicly called him out on printing information that he knew was false.
He will probably say: well, the photos were grainy, and, well, um Gottleib's memory report said she was all covered with bruises, and well, no um, I never wondered why if she was all governed w/bruises Gottleib never sent me any photos to prove it.
I wonder if Wilson finally got the message at the 11th hour when he strategically called the defense, hoping they wouldn't comment--but they did and refuted his story--he didn't already know he was done for..
He wanted to 're review' the defense file to try and get some justifications going for his shoddy reporting.
Or, maybe the article was an 'interim piece' and he always meant to write a final story that had all the facts....
I finally get the whole "meta-narrative" thing. Some people, like Duff Wilson, experience reality through the filter of an unshakeable "meta-narrative." Facts which fail to support the meta-narrative are discarded. They do not even exist. The emperor's clothes are lovely, and Duff Wilson wouldn't - couldn't - have it any other way.
This just gets worse and worse. Am I wrong to think that this is another Jason Blair (sp?) type event? Wilson could loose his job over this.
Nifong, Wilson, Duff, etc. Bullies All, and oh the abuse of power and privilege!
That would be Mike Nifong, Linwood Wilson and Duff Wilson, Bullies All.
Maybe they can share a cell and spend their days buggering eachother while shouting "I'm just a bad-boy LAX player, and you're an NCCU honor student!"
For 3:38-
If we are to be truly accurate, it's "putz."
This is getting to a point where
Duff Wilson is exposing himself
to a case of "intentional
infliction of..." etc.
This is way past the "I wasn't
aware of the facts" defense for
Duff and the NY Times.
I wonder who might be keeping
clippings of their papers for
later use?
Carolyn says:
We don't need more proof that the NY Times lies. But Bannon gave it to us anyway.
BTW, this is the first I heard of Duff calling defense attorneys. For someone so blinded by his own bigotry and also just a flat out liar, it surprises me Duff went through the motions of getting the truth. Why bother? He never printed it.
3:42 noted "Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, I am so glad that Bannon publicly called him out on printing information that he knew was false."
Printing information he KNEW was false is grounds for a defamation lawsuit. I can only hope the NY Times is slapped with one. I would love to see Dumb old Duff on the witness stand reading some of his lies and having the prosecution throw them in his face. He would deserve it.
BDay
Brad Bannon was awesome today. I hope this means the families involved are considering suing Duff Wilson for libel and defamation. Might he now apologize on the front page of the NYT?
I wish they could keep any of the guys from having to speak tomorrow. They've been through enough. Nifong being the narcissitic sociopath that he is,is going to drag him through the mud again. As wonderful as Reed is, he shouldn't have to take any more abuse.
Today's discussions give me hope that some consequence will come to Mr. Nifong, I just hope it's severe.
Thank you again KC for all of your hard work. There are lots of people who still care how the guys make out and want to see justice served to those who abused their power and responsibilities.
I am sure the guys can not wait to get on the stand -
The NYT, the "Old Gray Lady" has been publicly exposed as whoring herself out to the Nappy Headed Ho and black racists in Durham and on the Duke Campus...
This should put the NYT squarely into the sights of the lawyers pursuing civil actions against all the Kangaroo court and Black Lynch mobs in Durham and on the Duke Campus..
I'd like to see the NYT hit for 10s of millions....or more.
Thanks for interesting article.
Excellent website. Good work. Very useful. I will bookmark!
